I am a Conditionally Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the State of Maine and have been helping adolescents, adults, couples, and families work on their mental health needs for several years. I hold a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Southern Maine and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts.

I am committed to creating mindful change through innovative and evidence-based strategies. I look forward to working with you to address your specific needs.

I provide counseling to adolescents, adults, couples, and families for a variety of life challenges including but not limited to:

  • Depression, anxiety, and mood disorders
  • Stress Management
  • Post-traumatic stress and trauma
  • Relationship and family concerns
  • Body image and eating challenges
  • Grief and loss
  • Life transitions and identity

Everyone has a different path toward self-growth and together we will determine the best approach for your goals. Blending approaches honors the current journey you are on and embraces the many aspects of your life. Through mindfulness, psychodynamic, and relational and behavioral techniques we will set your course for self-discovery and growth. You can expect acceptance, empathy, compassion, and respect in a comfortable and supportive space, and a personal approach that will draw on your individual strengths.

While much of what is discussed in counseling is confidential and protected by the law, there are some exceptions. These exceptions are:
  • You direct me to share information with others
  • You threathen to harm yourself or others
  • A court orders disclosure of information
  • There are suspicions of abuse of incapacitated persons, children, or elders

Insurance Payments and Rates

As a conditionally licensed clincal mental health counselor, my professional services are qualified for reimbursement from insurance plans. Some clients prefer to use their insurance, while others choose to pay out of pocket for counseling services

Insurance Accepted: MaineCare, Anthem BC/BS, and Harvard Pilgrim among other insurance plans. To see if your insurance is accepted please contact me.

Payment is due at the time of services, directly to me. Cash and personal checks are accepted.

Rates: $100 per 50-minute session. Sliding scale is available in some circumstances.

Cancellation Policy: I have a 24 hour cancellation policy. If you do not show up for your scheduled appointment without notifying me 24 hours in advance, you are responsible for paying 100% of the session fee.

Weather Policy: If there are local school cancellations or weather alerts in Southern Maine, your appointment will may be cancelled or rescheduled. If you are unsure about your appointment, please contact me at 207-650-9292 or email at sarahbmckinnon@gmail.com
